[I'm not even going to tell you. But if I must...]

The purpose and intent behind this photo was to capture the subject’s playful personality and her passion to tell stories. I accomplished this through color, lighting, and framing. I chose frame the photograph so that the emphasis would be on her facial reaction to the pulling her nose ring and the direction her eyes lead. The light source was artificial available light which put a twinkle in her eye and brightness to add to the playful aspect I was going for.

Front Light | High Key

The high key light source for this photo came from a stage light that was bright enough to soften the overall appearance of the photograph and emphasized the emotion in the subject.

Front Light | Low Key

Good Luck and Godspeed | Peter Boysen

The light source for this photo was a stage light that created a low key contrast on the subject’s face.

Backlight

Good Luck And Godspeed | Jordan Ogren & Josh Day

This photo was taken at a Good Luck and Godspeed concert.  The single stage light created a very nice backlight on Josh.

Fill Light | Ambient

This photo was composed by using natural ambient light to keep the subject’s face at a similar exposure overall.

Fill Light | Bounce

This photo was created by shining headlights of a car toward the subject’s left side and then bounce the light off a white brick wall to fill in the right side of his face.

Side Light | High Contrast

The intent behind this photo was accent the stance of Peter by using a high contrast side light from car headlights to create a strong shadow.

Side Light | Low Contrast

We Are The Willows | Pete Miller

We Are The Willows | Pete Miller

This photo was taken at a We Are The Willows concert at Ed’s [No Name] Bar here in Winona.  The key light source for this photo was a stage light shining on his face.

Color Expression | Part Two

Jordan

Jordan

The intent behind this photo was to bring out Jordan’s bright blue eyes and his blue shirt.  I accomplished this by having his shirt fill up a majority of the frame and have the focal point be his eyes.
